Description

This song seems a little bit ‘Pop’ to me compared to what I usually write. I think it’s partly because I literally wrote this one in my sleep. I was dreaming, and a girl (well it was Taylor Swift, but it’s taken over a year for me to admit that) was singing this song. I woke up all groggy-eyed and was humming the chorus while still half asleep and suddenly I snapped out of it and realized I didn’t recognise the song I was singing and therefore I was likely the creator of it. So I jumped out of bed, grabbed my guitar and the whole song came out in about 30 minutes. The lyrics were a little bit contrived as I tried to figure out what part of my life I should relate it to, but once it was done, I felt deeply connected to it.

To this day I am a little bit hesitant about its resemblance to the Pop genre as I don’t want to appear to try to sound like something I’m not naturally about. But I stayed true to my style with my string pad arrangement and piano stylings and I think the organic instrumentation overall separates it from today’s pop music. Not that there’s anything wrong with today’s pop music… it’s just not what I do.

lyrics

I never really knew
what I would do
when the time was right.
I’m really not surprised
that in my eyes
you can see me fight.
Your heart and dick are thrilled
and so fulfilled
but your mind’s not clear.
And neither of us can tell
just what the hell
we’re doin here. And every day is changing,
our lives are rearraging,
and I don’t know
if letting go
is right.You’ve taken my control,
you’re opening my soul,
you’re taming all my fears,
but I don’t want you here.
And every single day
I wish we’d find a way
to simply let it be
and set each other free.I suppose it’s nothing new
that you are through
spinnin’ your wheels.
And I’m really not the type
to raise the hype
in what I feel. And when the time is comin’
you’ll be drummin’
up your past.
But it’s really okay
cause like I say
it’ll never last.

And I can’t stop rearranging,
all the vibes that we’re exchanging.
And I don’t know if letting go
is wrong.

You’ve taken my control,
you’re opening my soul,
you’re taming all my fears,
but I don’t want you here.
And every single day
I wish we’d find a way
to simply let it be
and set each other free.
